You're right. The fact that I don't have total control over my profile is somewhat annoying, not to mention disturbing.

It will be interesting to see whether Spock can get users to take ownership over their profiles and engage. There's a huge difference between crawled and user-generated, and I'm not aware of a web site which started with crawled as the source then leveraged that to user-generated. Consider ZoomInfo (crawled) vs LinkedIn (100% user generated) -- LinkedIn has a far deeper engagement level with users.

Once crawled, always crawled?

It will also be interesting to see how their revenue model develops. In search, the bulk of revenue is earned in "transactional search" use cases, not informational or people search.

Guy:

Yes, as I wrote in my post, people search is a hot space these days. Time will tell who will take the lead.

Anand:

Thanks for the compliment :-)

Blonde, long time ;-)

It's an interesting post. People search must be a key phenomenon.
Here's a nice way to see the people behind spock:

Guy:

You must remember that they just publicly launched about two weeks ago so I believe it will take some time before we are able to search for practically anyone and get relevant results. As you say, currently they've got a lot more info on celebs and public figures than the rest of us. I think that once exposure increases, more & more people will claim their pages and add information about themselves thus leading to better search results (hopefully). I do find it interesting though that I am not getting anything for Blonde 2.0 either even though I've listed my blog on my page.

Benny:

They've been in private beta for a while now and I am not sure how many people they invited to it...

This is truly an amazing service. Too bad I got errors when using it, I'm sure they will improve over time. BTW, checking their Alexa it looks as if they receive much traffic for the last 6 months or so, how come they just released the beta now?

Interesting. I did some experiments:

I've tried putting "Israel Podcast" into the search field with no results. On advanced search, putting "Podcast" on the Tags field and "Israel" on Location also got me nothing.

Putting my own name into the search field got me a bunch of results, non of them connected to me. Putting "Night Guy Podcast" (Night Guy is one of my podcasts), also got no results. By contrast, "Night Guy Podcast" got me 160 results on Google, many of them completely relevant.

Putting "Blonde 2.0" also got me nothing of significants. Would be interesting to see how this thing grows, if it would bring some more obscure results or just stay in the realm of the celebrity.
