SuTree Launches Instructional Videos Site
SuTree, a new Israeli startup which aggregates instructional “how to” videos, will announce its launch today.
SuTree videos are submitted and rated by users, and come mainly from sites like VideoJug and Metacafe.
All videos are nicely organized and there are many different topics to choose from such as: Health, Food & Drink, Home & Garden, Languages. There’s a lot of good stuff there for students as well…wow, I wish I had these tools when I was back in high school. It’s much more fun learning algebra or studying for the SAT’s like this.
SuTree is targeting the same audience as 5min.com, but it has the advantage of containing videos from different communites. I also found SuTree to be clearer, better organized, and more pleasing to the eye in its design. However the big problem with SuTree is this: Even though the site calls itself a “knowledge community”, it is missing the community. Users don’t add profiles and don’t connect with one another. This is a huge advantage that 5min.com has over it. If SuTree is to compete effectively in the instructional videos sector, it should definitely add the social aspect to its platform.

Are you sure you understand web 2.0? Sutree aggregates video content, while metacafe, 5min.com and videojug are content creators if by the users (the first two) or by themselves(the last). Sutree is not compeeting with any of them, quite the opposite, it depends on them. you can find videos from all three.
Dear web20lover:
As I wrote in my post, SuTree aggregates video content and most of its content comes from metacafe and videojug. I did not imply in any way that these are competing sites. Regarding 5min, it is a different case because 5min is targeting the instructional videos market much like SuTree, only that SuTree’s advantage is that it aggergates instructional videos from all these different sites while 5min’s videos only come from its own community. My point in the post was that if SuTree was able to also form its own social community, this would definitely give them the upper hand in all aspects.
As you both said, 5min.com and suTree are targeting the same audience and compete for the same traffic but they have different business models and they do not compete over the VC money, as 5min.com is a content provider while suTree provide a service of aggregating content from other sites.
As for web20lover comment on understanding web2.0, I would really like to hear what are your answers to the question “What is Web 2.0?”. There are so many answers to this question, I’m not sure if anyone really knows a straight answer…
Dear Benny:
To me web2.0 means the democratization of content:

Nice post for me. Your post has valuable infos. I wish to has good posts like yours in my website. How do you make these posts?
Can I give your web site an overall comment? I like the content of your page, incredibly much! Due to the fact they are rich and informative. Nevertheless, I believe this site would definitely look better if you change to a superior theme. Just my 2 cents.
I dont truly know what you talking about here. This cant be the only way to think about this can it? It seems like you know a great deal, so why not explore it more? Make it a lot more accessible to everyone else who may not concur with you? Youd get a great deal a lot more individuals behind this should you just stopped making common statements.
